Building the Buddha Land | Working Retreat

21 – 26 jul | led by Prakashamitra + Prajnanita

A Bodhisattva’s Buddha Field is a field of positive thought; a field of high resolve; a field of virtuous application.

In the second lecture of the Inconceivable Emancipation series, Sangharakshita asks, ‘What is the Buddha Land? Who builds it? Why do they build it? With what do they build it? How do they build it?’

We’ll bring the vast cosmology and deep myth of the Bodhisattva’s Buddha Land into lived experience through mornings of work-as-practice, alongside a rich programme of study, reflection and ritual. The work will vary and all levels of practical experience and ability are welcome.

It is essential that those attending are able do approx. 3 hours work each day. You need to be ready to work whatever the weather. Bring suitable clothing for working outdoors.

Reception is from 4pm on the day of arrival, with the retreat beginning with supper at 6pm.

While you’re here you will be participating in communal life. This includes meditating with everyone on site in the main shrine room in the morning, taking part in daily tasks and at the end of your retreat you will help us to prepare the retreat centre for the next group to join us.

With this in mind, the retreat will finish after the clear-up, so if travelling on public transport, please book a train after 11am.
