Contemplating the Diamond Sutra

Led by Vajrapriya

The Vajracchedika Prajnaparamita Sutra precipitated Sangharakshita’s Buddhist life and so is a pivotal text in Triratna. It is a dialogue between the Buddha and his disciple Subhuti, paradoxical and repetitive, but it ends with a simple list of nine images to communicate the true sunya nature of conditioned existence.

As stars, a fault of vision, as a lamp,
A mock show, dew drops, or a bubble,
A dream, a lightning flash, or cloud,
So should one view what is conditioned.

These images, when contemplated, have the imaginative power to lead us into a deeper understanding of sunyata. On this small Order retreat, we will engage with the full significance of these images, using discussion, reflection exercises and contemplative meditation.

The retreat will start with dinner at 18:00 and you are welcome to arrive on site after 16:00, it will end at 10:30 on the last day.
