Study Convention: The Diamond Sutra
Led by Sraddhapa
This “study convention” will be comprise a number of separate study seminars on foundational texts. You will book to study one of these texts with one of our most experienced study leaders, and will primarily be studying the original text itself, though informed and augmented by Bhante’s perspective on it given in seminars from the early years of the movement.
The study seminars will be woven together with a series of talks from Subhuti on the practice of Dharma Study, time for reflection, and a programme of shared shrine room practice.

The Diamond Sutra – Śraddhāpa
During the retreat we will be looking at Bhante's commentaries on the sutra, as well as more recent academic research. Rather than looking for any one definitive or 'correct' interpretation of this difficult and elusive text, Śraddhāpa's method will be to present a number of different and even contradictory interpretations which taken together can hopefully help us to engage with the sutra in a richer, more creative, and more nuanced way.
The study material will include Edward Conze's translation of the sutra, which formed the basis for Bhante's commentaries, as well as a new translation by Śraddhāpa which departs from Conze's in a number of key ways.
