Sub35 Changemakers | Let the Demons Come

29 May – 1 June | led by Young Order Steering Group

‘To begin with, yes, we do have a sort of idea, we have a sort of vision of the spiritual life, and in the light of that vision we try to grow. But sooner or later we have to contact all those deeper, profounder, more primordial energies within ourselves and incorporate them too into our spiritual life and our spiritual quest. Only then will our spiritual life be really rich and really growing, and not based upon tension and not based upon struggle all the time. And we need to do much the same sort of thing within the world.’

– Sangharakshita, Padmasambhava Day, 1979

Padmasambhava is the embodiment of radical transformation. He subjugates the forces that are inimical to the Dharma—both in himself and in the world.

As changemakers, we partake in this myth. We are trying to grow, and we are trying to help others do the same. Inevitably, we encounter all kinds of obstacles, but these need not hinder us from our goal; they can be turned into the path.

Over the course of this weekend, we will learn from the greatly precious guru Padmasambhava and the Tantric siddhas who transformed the magical rites of ancient India into potent spiritual practices – practices that could overcome whatever obstacle they faced.

This annual Sub35 Changemakers weekend is for mitras aged 18–34 who facilitate (or might soon facilitate) young Buddhist activities, or who teach (or host) general classes and events at their local centre with young people in regular attendance. The weekend includes talks, discussions, and practical workshops.

We’re delighted that The European Triratna Chairs Assembly has provided a generous grant to help make it possible for young Mitras living outside of England & Wales to attend this event in 2025 and 2026. Email Satyanita to ask about a grant to pay towards your travel costs.

To book on this retreat you need to be a Mitra within the Triratna community aged 18-34.

Reception is from 4pm on the day of arrival, with the retreat beginning with supper at 6pm.

While you’re here you will be participating in communal life. This includes meditating with everyone on site in the main shrine room in the morning, taking part in daily tasks and at the end of your retreat you will help us to prepare the retreat centre for the next group to join us.

With this in mind, the retreat will finish after the clear-up, so if travelling on public transport, please book a train after 3pm.
