Insight Inquiry into Anatta

Led by Karunachitta, Prajnamati, Tejapushpa + Team from the Order Insight Inquiry project

The Buddha taught that for everything to be found in sense experience as we encounter it directly, "this is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self" (1). On this retreat, led by mentors from the order insight inquiry team, we will be exploring anatta in direct experience. Direct experience is simply sense experience as it is in the present moment, without mental fabrication. Looking in to our direct experience, we will inquire in to whether there is to be found a 'me' in the form of an experiencer, a thinker of thoughts, a chooser, a decider, an observer, a doer of deeds, an agent of action - or any other form.

There will be opportunity for one-to-one dialog with one of the team.

Accompanying this, there will be exercises exploring the six senses in direct experience to clarify the difference between mental abstractions and direct experience, and giving a taste of different aspects of insight inquiry dialogues.

This inquiry will be within a meditative context, especially just sitting practice.

This retreat is open to all order members.

The retreat will start with dinner at 18:00 and you are welcome to arrive on site after 16:00, it will end at 10:30 on the last day.
