Transforming Self and World | Seminar

17 – 24 apr | led by parami + team

In 1976, Bhante Sangharakshita gave an important series of eight talks: Transformation of Life and World in the Sutra of Golden Light.

From the first talk we hear:

We can think of it, (the spiritual life) for example, in terms of transformation…

And many of us surely today feel the need for this kind of change, this very thorough, very radical profound change amounting to a transformation.

And not only that, we’re not only very often tired of the old self… We are tired of the old world as well. And we want a new world, a world that doesn’t hinder us in our development, our spiritual development, at every step. A world that is more conducive to spiritual development.

Bhante then explores this transformation in all aspects of daily life: economic, cultural, ethical. We can see the seeds of our community in these lectures. Fifty years on, we will explore these themes in the context of the mythical world of the Sutra of Golden Light.

Seminar Retreats offer an intimate setting to look in-depth at Bhante’s exposition of key texts, bring us closer to the mind behind the teaching, and understand their relevance to our lives and practice. Places are very limited so book early.

Reception is from 4pm on the day of arrival, with the retreat beginning with supper at 6pm.

While you’re here you will be participating in communal life. This includes meditating with everyone on site in the main shrine room in the morning, taking part in daily tasks and at the end of your retreat you will help us to prepare the retreat centre for the next group to join us.

With this in mind, the retreat will finish after the clear-up, so if traveling on public transport, please book a train after 11am.
