Anagarikas’ Convention

30 Jan – 6 Feb | led by a team of anagarikas

When we were setting up Adhisthana, Bhante Sangharakshita told me (Parami) that he thought it important that Adhisthana was host to conventions for those of us in the Order who have taken the Abrahmacarya precept and become Anagarikas.

This year we are fortunate to have the opportunity to come together for a week and contemplate, explore and celebrate our lives as Anagarikas.

An Order member takes a vow of chastity, and becomes an anagarika, simply in order to deepen their experience of Going for Refuge and to help shift the locus of their being from the kamaloka or world of (sensuous) desire to the rupaloka or world of (archetypal) form, that is, to the Brahma-realms. They takes it, moreover, only after consulting with spiritual friends and making sure that their living conditions will be conducive to its observance.

Sangharakshita, Forty-Three Years Ago (1993)

Reception is from 4pm on the day of arrival, with the retreat beginning with supper at 6pm.

While you’re here you will be participating in communal life. This includes meditating with everyone on site in the main shrine room in the morning, taking part in daily tasks and at the end of your retreat you will help us to prepare the retreat centre for the next group to join us.

With this in mind, the retreat will finish after the clear-up, so if travelling on public transport, please book a train after 11am.
