Precepts of Our Lineage: The Door of Liberation

Led by Paramartha

"Herein is the practice of the three guiding Principles of the Path, the special precepts which the protector Manjusri gave directly to the great Tsongkhapa, King of Dharma of the three realms.”
- The Door of Liberation (Geshe Wangyal)

In 1959 the first English publication of a work by Je Tsongkapa, one of the greatest figures in Tibetan Buddhism, was undertaken by Bhante (and John Driver) at the request of the Dalai Lama.

The Three Principles of the Path is said to ‘condense the essence of all the teachings and their commentaries into stages of practice for an individual.’ Paramārtha will be introducing us to this wonderfully concise ‘root text’, Je Tsongkapa’s inspired and poetic verses on the three chief aspects of the spiritual path: renunciation, bodhichitta and the wisdom realizing emptiness.

As well as drawing on material from Bhante’s The Door of Liberation seminar, Paramārtha will also explore the metaphor of the path, so central to Buddhist practice and our own practice within the Triratna Buddhist Order.

Reception is from 4pm on the day of arrival, with the retreat beginning with supper at 6pm.

The retreat will finish in the morning after the clear-up. If traveling on public transport, please book a train after 11am.
