Sub30 Meditation Intensive

9 – 18 Aug | led by Vijayamala + jnanavaca

In troubled times it feels increasingly urgent to find an effective way to respond to the suffering of the world.

Through engaging with Metta meditation we learn to respond creatively to suffering, to melt away our sense of separation and can begin to awaken to the truth of how things really are.

The Metta Bhavana has the power to completely transform our emotional lives and our relations to others. The legendary Tibetan Guru Padmasambhava is an archetype of this kind of transformation. His mythic life story presents a conflict between the forces of light and of darkness – a conflict that takes place within our own hearts and minds.

This intensive meditation ten day retreat, guided by stories from the life of Padmasambhava, we’ll explore how Metta can become a joyful path to wisdom and Insight.

With several days of silence, 1:1 meditation reviews, superb teaching and ten days in the beautiful natural surroundings of Adhisthana – the Sub30 intensive offers a perfect opportunity to encounter your mind, deepen your experience and progress (or start!) your practice of meditation.

Leaders

Vijayamala has been practising for 35 years, and teaching meditation retreats ever since her 3 year retreat in 2011. She feels really fortunate to be able to pass on some of the tools, confidence and love of meditation and dharma practice she herself received during this time. She has taught on DharmaLife courses and lives in Jasmine Cottage, across the field from Adhisthana.

Jnanavaca has been based at the London Buddhist Centre for many years, and is a central figure of the men’s community there. He was Chair of the London Buddhist Centre until 2018, has been a public preceptor for several years, president to the Cambridge Centre and is a trustee of Windhorse Trust and of Dharmachakra.

Reception is from 4pm on the day of arrival, with the retreat beginning with supper at 6pm.

While you’re here you will be participating in communal life. This includes meditating with everyone on site in the main shrine room in the morning, taking part in daily tasks and at the end of your retreat you will help us to prepare the retreat centre for the next group to join us.

With this in mind, the retreat will finish after the clear-up, so if travelling on public transport, please book a train after 11am.
