Orpheus in the Buddha-realm: a retreat for classical musicians

"For me music was not the brandy of the damned but the ambrosia of the blessed, and swept me up to heights of ecstasy in a way that even poetry could not do.”
So said Sangharakshita, who discovered classical music whilst in his teens and remained a lover of it throughout his life, even maintaining that it could lead one into samadhi. It is remarkable how many people within Triratna not only love music but also play musical instruments themselves, and on this unique retreat they will have the chance to meet, share inspiration, explore the relationship between music and Dharma practice, play and listen deeply to music together, and perform a small concert.

Discussion will be stimulated by Vidyaruchi sharing reflections on the philosophy and practice of music from a Buddhist perspective. And there will be further input from some of the Order's most experienced musicians, including internationally renowned pianist Akashadeva.
