Three Monday Evenings (22, 29 Nov & 6 Dec): 6.30-8.30pm GMT / 7.30-9.30pm CET
Join other young people to explore the Dhaniya Sutta in a three-week seminar with Saddhanandi. Ordained in 2005, she is now the chair of Adhisthana having previously lived at Taraloka retreat centre for two decades. Down to earth and with a great depth of practice, Saddhanandi is an excellent dharma teacher and has herself ordained several young women. Ksantikara, young people’s coordinator at Adhisthana, will host Saddhanandi each week.
In this ancient Sutta we meet the farmer Dhaniya. He’s wealthy, has the ‘perfect partner’ and a comfortable home. He has economic stability, material security, a loving family and a successful business. Before long he comes face to face with the Buddha. In the words of Sangharakshita: ‘there’s no reference to specific teachings; it’s very basic; it’s existential. Simply the enlightened individual in contact with the unenlightened individual in the midst of what he thinks of as his security’.
Each week we’ll study the Dhaniya Sutta to investigate the ways in which we cover up our existential situations and explore our own relationship to accumulation and renunciation. Together we’ll discover how we can shape our lives to go beyond the mundane and begin to encounter enlightenment.
