Avatamsaka Sutra: Entry Into The Realm Of Reality | Dhammasavana Retreat

7 – 14 May | Led by Sona + Prajnanita

Dhammasavana Retreats are a new offering at Adhisthana. Dhammasavana, or “hearing the Dharma”, is centred on deep engagement with Buddhist scripture through listening, reflection, meditation, and ritual. This retreat will focus on Entry into the Realm of Reality, often known as the Gandavyuha Sutra, the concluding section of the Avatamsaka Sutra.

At the heart of the retreat is the practice of listening. Throughout the day we will hear the sutra read aloud, interwoven with periods of sitting and walking meditation. Rather than approaching the text through study or discussion, we will give ourselves time to dwell with it, allowing its imagery, symbols, and teachings to work upon the mind and imagination. Reflection, meditation, ritual, and creative engagement will support a gradual deepening of our relationship with the text.

Reception is from 4pm on the day of arrival, with the retreat beginning with supper at 6pm.

While you’re here, you will be participating in communal life. This includes meditating with everyone on site in the main shrine room in the morning, taking part in daily tasks and at the end of your retreat you will help us to prepare the retreat centre for the next group to join us.

With this in mind, the retreat will finish after the clear-up, so if travelling on public transport, please book a train after 11am.
