Can we realize enlightenment alone? Sangharakshita argues no. He teaches that because reality, in our experience, has bifurcated into subject and object, our path back to wholeness must also go two ways: inward through wisdom (prajñā) and outward through compassion (karuṇā). In the seminar Mind in Buddhist Psychology, Sangharakshita explores the “Bi-Tendential Value of Being,” reminding us that spiritual life risks becoming just self-referential if it lacks an ethical, other-oriented dimension.
On this retreat, we will delve into this foundational teaching, reflecting on how our personal practice connects to our work in the world. Come and explore how “you plus others” can attain what “you” alone cannot.
