Adhisthana Retreats

Event Title: Singing the Sangha

Led by Arthsiddhi, Manidhara, Padmavajra

Retreat now full for Altos (contact us via email to be put on the waiting list).
There are 4 places left for Soprano and Bass and 5 left for Tenors.

In Sangharakshita's discourse on the relevance of the arts to a vital Dharma practice he has said "A choir is a Sangha at least whilst it's singing".  We will be deepening our appreciation of the value of singing together in a choir for our Dharma practice, drawing on material from Subhuti and Padmavajra's Eros and Beauty retreats. As well as raising the horizons of the value of a choir we will be raising our voices and our standard as a choir and, all going well, perform for Bhante. Buddhist and western canonical repertoire to be confirmed.

The retreat is for music readers and non-music readers and all in between. We will be singing as one united choir and also dividing into readers and non-readers. The retreat will consist of music for 4 voice parts and require both music readers and non-readers to note learn up to 4 pieces of about 5 minutes to be sung in the 'united choir'. We will supply both mp3s and sheet music for you to learn these pieces before the retreat.

Please indicate in the Other Info box, whether you are soprano, alto, tenor or bass, and whether you are able to read music.

You will need to learn the pieces to the level of being able to sing along with the MP3. If you are not able to do this before the retreat you will not be able to enjoy the singing or support other singers as we are planning to use the short time we have to the full!

This retreat is for Triratna Mitras who have asked for ordination and members of the Triratna Buddhist Order only
